New Buoy Station in Southern CA

CDIP 284 Capistrano Beach Nearshore, CA was established on July 9, 2025, with station funding provided by the California State Parks Natural Resources Division. Together with beach observations by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography's Coastal Processes Group, and a seabed pressure sensor from CORDC, buoy data from this station will be used to better understand wave-driven erosion in this complex region, and inform infrastructure planning at Doheny State Beach. Positioned only ~1 mile (~1600 m) from shore, in 11 m water depth, the station will also provide validation data for the CDIP California coastal wave model.
